Earlier this week, we were proud to launch the second in our ‘Playschool Playscapes’ line of team building give-back initiatives: Buddy Benches.
Following the success of Mud Pie Kitchens for Kids (launched in January 2016 at PCMA Convening Leaders), Buddy Benches were inspired by a session given by Vancouver Convention Centre’s Claire Smith, who spoke about their success at this year’s GMID (Global Meetings Industry Day).
What is a Buddy Bench?
A simple and highly effective way to foster friendship and promote inclusiveness on school playgrounds. Children are encouraged to sit on the buddy bench when they are feeling lonely or have nobody to play with, and soon another child will join them - making sure nobody is ever left alone.
At Engagement Unlimited, the Power of Play is something we strongly believe in for all ages, and an approach we strive to help our clients include in their meetings and events. Childhood development relies strongly on a foundation of imaginative play, freedom to explore, and strong social support.
The Buddy Benches we create with our groups are donated to daycares, pre-schools, and elementary schools that need them most with the goal of transforming children’s lives and creating happier playgrounds.
We were proud to work with the Fairmont teams in the Vancouver area as part of their “ESPA (Event Services Professionals Association) Celebrate Services Week. Together we built 5 unique Buddy Benches to be donated to Lower Mainland pre-schools and elementary schools, and had a lot of feel good give-back moments throughout the afternoon we shared.
